Abstract

The principal objective of our research program is to develop formalisms and calculations that describe the structure and reactions of exotic nuclei. These nuclei are characterized by their low binding energy and inhomogeneous structure, consisting of a core plus halo or of two or more smaller clusters. These properties are especially important in reactions, where dissociation of the exotic nucleus is one of the dominant reaction channels. These nuclei are characterized by their low binding energy and inhomogeneous structure, consisting of a core plus halo or of two or more smaller clusters. These properties are especially important in reactions, where dissociation of the exotic nucleus is one of the dominant reaction channels. To attain the goal of this program, this group of researchers concentrates its research on models and methods (analytical and numerical) of many-body nuclear and particle physics, as well as those of atomic physics. Among the physical phenomena under study by the team are: the properties of nuclear clusters as well as the correlations between quarks and/or nucleons expected of nuclear matter and observed in finite nuclei and in reactions involving exotic or highly excited nuclei. The models developed by the group have as their goal the reproduction of experimental results and, through this, a better comprehension and/or verification of the basic laws of nature obeyed by the systems under study. The numerical and analytical methods utilized, and often developed, are focussed around the techniques needed to solve the (relativistic and nonrelativistic) dynamical equations that describe the models under study.
