Compounds produced by endophyte microorganisms isolated from Brazilian tropical savannah: bioactivity, association with a-Ag2WO4 and biotechnological applications

Abstract

The Brazilian tropical savannah is a typical mosaic biome, characterized by endemic and medicinal plants with unique characteristics from where microorganisms can be isolated. Microorganisms are an important source for production of bioactive metabolites for diverse applications. Endophytes are microorganisms that inhabit the interior of plant tissues, without causing apparent disease to its host and they can produce bioactive substances. This project aims to answer three major questions like: a) can bioactive substances derived from endophytes be partially purified and act as antimicrobials? b) can these substances be used to reduce/eliminate chronic and fatal diseases like leishmaniasis? c) can nanoparticles be incorporated with the bioactive endophyte substances or extracts in order to present enhanced results? The importance of this project is linked to the crescent and progressively microbial resistance. In this sense, bioprospection can be used to search for new therapeutic substances that are produced by endophytic microorganisms alone or in association with nanoparticles. Tropical neglected diseases like Leishmaniasis could be treated with the discovery of new substances. Nanotechnology with antimicrobial metal synthesis can be used with synthesized biostatic and/or biocides particles like a-Ag2WO4 and similar. These particles in association with compounds produced by endophytes could enable biotechnological applications. (AU)
