Abstract

Affordable and innovative solutions, technologically and economically, that contributes to identify and mitigate pollution of rivers, lakes, reservoirs and other water bodies are increasingly necessary in a country like Brazil, where, continued demographic expansion, industrial and agricultural growing activities observed in recent decades, has brought water quality impairment as a result. An extensive literature search conducted in the last 15 years on the basis of the INPI, Fapesp, national and international journals of Capes noted that; INPI patent application approaching part of this project was required in 2011 and closed in 2013 for lack of documentation and was based on a fixed buoy with communication with the Internet. Universities and research institutes are engaged in the development of computerized systems for collecting and processing data in real time using imported benchtop instrumentation sensors, developed for the measurement of some IQA indicators, but they are unable to do submerged measures. No genuine national submersible probe was found in the literature cited above as proposed in this project. Abroad, there is a huge amount of research in this area in the last two years (2015 and 2016). According to Lux Research, a strategic consulting firm, the international water industry is flooded with innovative technology companies competing to remain active. These companies represent a quarter of startups in the industry. This large crop of water analysis companies indicates a late change of water quality monitoring and control. This project aims, in addition to monitoring the status of international art, to propose solutions to major technological challenges for the monitoring of water pollution and present commercially interesting product designs as pollution is an attractive activity for both Brazilian companies and for social enterprises. These solutions will be proven by the study of case of a computer system Ubiquitous called IARA, which illustrate the basis of many resolutions that will technology enable the proposed product designs which it's main feature is an innovative concept of integration of the "Internet of Things " with the submersible probes manufactured in Brazil. These submersible probes, which use imported sensors, have enable embedded data processing algorithms to achieve significant competitive advantage related to the low cost while maintaining the reliability of the measures. The IARA´s unique design, in addition with it´s feature of solving problems related to the high cost of monitoring results in a less intense difficulty for operating and maintenance. The main expected outcome, without downgrading other intermediaries, is enlighten the various business models and its corresponding technological solutions for monitoring and control water bodies pollution. The impact of this project is to set affordable technologies and commercially interesting business models in order that pollution combating has become an attractive activity for businesses and for social enterprises at all.
