Abstract

As people get older the noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) become the leading causes of morbidity, disability and mortality in all regions of the world. Amongst the NCDs, obesity stands out, which is associated with chronic systemic low-grade inflammation, even in the absence of overt disease, and it's often followed by increased levels of inflammatory markers and adipokines. Additionally, systemic low-grade inflammation appears to increase with age. On the other hand, regular physical exercise exerts a protective effect against diseases associated with this type of inflammation, and also in the symptoms related with metabolic syndrome and sarcopenia. In the long term, this effect of exercise on the body can be described as an anti-inflammatory response induced by an acute bout of exercise mediated by interleukin-6 (IL-6), which is produced and released by contraction of muscle fibers. The increased IL-6 plasma concentration indirectly stimulates the synthesis of anti-inflammatory cytokines such as interleukin-10 (IL-10) and, consequently, it inhibits production of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-±). In the literature, there are lack of evidence related to the inflammatory response in the concurrent training at different periodization of physical training in women over 50 years with overweight and/or obesity. Thus, due to the benefits in the short, medium and long term that the practice of exercises presents on the metabolism, emphasizing the response of interleukins, along with the improvement of physical fitness components and functional capacity for the practice of daily activities, and thereby improving health-related quality of life, the aim of this study is to analyze in the concurrent training, the effect of different periodization of physical training on immunological parameters, metabolic, weight and health-related quality of life in women with obesity.
