Abstract

This research project addresses The Poetic Representations of Death in the Media Narratives. Starting from the relations between Communication and Culture, it is founded upon authors like Flusser, Marcondes Filho, Baitello Júnior (for the concepts of communication, incommunicability and media); Paz, Morin, Dravet; Castro e Silva e Silva (for poetic communication); Benjamin e Silva (for narratives) and Flusser and Morin (for death as the foundation of culture). As a general goal, we seek to understand how representations of death are constituted in media narratives. Our specific objectives are: to understand the concepts of communication and incommunicability, from their relations with culture and the consciousness of death; to discuss the possibility of a poetic communication as a form of complex representation / construction of the phenomenon of death; to evaluate Iberian-American cinematographic narratives in order to understand the common cultural roots contained in the media representations of death; and, understanding the cinema as media, to understand the representations of death contained in these narratives, from their poetic aspects. As a methodology, we start with a bibliographical research, followed by an exploratory research for the delimitation of the corpus, and then the analysis of the selected narratives, in which we seek to reveal poetic aspects (and their leadings) in the representations of death. The relevance of this work lies upon, with the revision of the concepts of communication and incommunicability, to seek to expand, through theoretical comparison, the relations between the common ideas of the authors and, from these, to point to the possibility of a poetic communication, which is guiding our hypothesis about the poetic as a complex form of representation / construction of the phenomenon of death in the media narratives. One also expects to increase the discussion about methods of analysis of the media narratives. (AU)
