Customized operating system in sheep breeding: characterization of herds and systematization of the data as complementary tools to technical advice

Abstract

Management systems currently used do not allow to reach all the available productive potential, due to the lack of real-time communication, making the decision taken during the operation to be made handicapped or other tarry, causing loss of productivity and quality of the final product. New manufacturing applications have focused on the joint use of industrial automation technology and information technology aimed at greater efficiency, quality and productivity. One trend is the development of Industry 4.0, which represents the evolution of production systems through the interconnection and seamless integration between systems and equipment, by promoting the availability of information necessary for the best production and management decisions. For the development and implementation of this new production approach, the application of recent technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT) is required, the Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), the IPv6 protocol and Cloud Computing. The development of the research project for proof of concept consists of three steps: data acquisition by a window, move to SOCO software (Custom Operating System Ovine) processing techniques to achieve the performance parameters and availability of data to interface software with access of registered users. With the collected data, they will be characterized sheep herds to be established genetic selection objectives in a future development phase. The main objectives of the early genetic characterization efforts will quantify the genetic diversity within and between races of the same species in order to identify the genetic structure of standards as well as to estimate the influence of commercial and / or specialized breeds on-site in adapted herds. Some countries, like Australia, are already moving on similar technology. The project should contribute to that Brazil is positioned strategically between high technology producing countries to agribusiness. In addition, the business model will enable the economies in the regions where distributors act. Creating jobs and moving the capital within the community. Cheaper computers, mobile devices and communication cost, as well as the emergence of technologies such as the Internet of Things, brings out an alternative solution to some of the problems: the introduction of intelligent systems to support farmers. Internet of Things (IoT) refers to a vision in which things like objects, places and environments will be interconnected through the Internet encompassing a vast amount of hardware and software technologies. The evolution of IoT and related devices allow the exchange of information and making decisions in heterogeneous environments, as the decision-making system in the production of sheep in the farm, or the management of information in a chain of cooperative producers. The SOCO software proposes to reduce errors caused by within the sheep production systems of information management and real-time decisions, assist in genetic selection of sheep and the management operations. This research it is the beginning of a system to automate the management sheep and connect it to the Internet. (AU)
