Effectiveness of school-based intervention to encourage the practice of Physical Education and promotion of healthy living habits

Abstract

The school environment is an important social environment for ensuring access to children and adolescents to different cultural assets of the collective plan. Thus, this study aims to develop, implement and evaluate, on an individual and organizational level, an intervention program to promote healthy living habits through the practice of physical education in school the final grades of elementary school. This is an evaluation research of qualitative and quantitative approach, which will involve teachers of Physical Education, School of 6 and 7 years of primary education in public school of Integral Education Program (IEP) and their families. The research will take place in four schools in IEP the city of Presidente Prudente, São Paulo, two participants in the intervention group and two in the control group. The study design will be divided into four stages: construction, implementation, monitoring and completion. In the construction phase will be developed collectively, involving students and teachers from schools, a proposal for intervention based on the diagnostic study of the problem, the central approach to questioning will be living habits and will be incorporated in the activities planned themes and content present in the Curriculum of Physical Education of São Paulo State. In the application stage, the intervention model in schools will be applied. In the follow-up phase will be observing the application stage of the activities that have been integrated into the pedagogical practices of teachers. The culmination of the evaluation procedure will take place at the completion stage, in which the changes occurred in the school routine even without the external intervention of the research team will be checked. At the individual level, they will be assessed information that will provide the identification and effectiveness of the intervention on priority issues relating to changes in behavior related to the school lifestyle. At the organizational level, it will be assessed whether the intervention program resulted in the improvement of educational practices related to physical education and health globally, with respect to the encouragement to healthy lifestyle habits.
