Abstract

The main objective of this research project is to investigate the metabolic, hematological and neuromuscular effects induced by training model " sleep high and train low " (DATB), followed by a taper period. Twenty-four subjects (12 in hypoxia and 12 in normoxic) will train only one leg, thus constituting four groups - untrained leg with exposure to hypoxia (GDH ), leg trained with exposure to hypoxia (GTH), leg trained in normoxic (GDN) and leg trained in normoxic (GTN). The GDH and GTH will be submitted daily (~ 10 horas.dia -1, during the period of sleep) at a fraction of inspired oxygen equivalent to 14.5 % (~ 3000m). The training will consist of 28 sessions, from the combination of efforts in intensities corresponding to metabolic thresholds and intensity of peak oxygen consumption (iVO2peak). During the last week of training, all participants will hold sessions in normoxic (ie week polishing ). All participants (hypoxic and normoxic) sleep in tents (Portable Queen TentTM ). Before and after DATB (20 sessions) and after the taper period (8 sessions), the subjects will undergo two days of evaluation. On the first day, blood samples (20 mL) and muscle tissue (50 mg) are collected for the determination of hematological markers (red cells, hematocrit, hemoglobin, erythropoietin and total hemoglobin weight) and metabolic parameters (amount of enzymes and muscle glycogen). Although the first day (morning), the subjects will perform two incremental tests (one in each leg; 30-min interval) for the determination of metabolic thresholds and iVO2peak. During the afternoon the subjects made two efforts to exhaustion with relative intensities of 110% and 80% of iVO2peak (one in each leg , range 120 min). On the second day, during the morning will be perform six submaximal efforts (3 on each leg ; interval of 60 min between sets) with intensities of 30, 40 and 50W and duration of seven minutes. In the afternoon, subjects will perform the Tlim with contralateral legs used on the first day. From the submaximal and supra- maximal efforts we will be given the maximum accumulated deficit in the traditional way oxygen (MAOD) and reduced (i.e sum of lactic contributions and alátic in the effort to 110% of iVO2peak; MAODRED). Neuromuscular parameters related to peripheral and central fatigue, will be determined during the exhausting efforts to 80% of iVO2peak through the Twitch Interpolation technique. Comparisons between experimental groups will be performed by analysis of variance (ANOVA -Two Way), followed where necessary by post- hoc Tukey. The possible relationship between the changes of the parameters investigated changes in performance will be verified with the Pearson correlation test. In all cases the level of significance will be pre- set at p<0.05. (AU)
