Metamorphism and partial melting in ancient orogens II

Abstract

This research project aims to investigate the tectonic evolution of ancient orogens using the study of metamorphic rocks. Metamorphism and partial melting are direct consequences of the thermal relaxation following the collisional stage in orogens. The shape of the P-T paths, the partial melting reactions and formed parageneses are reflections of tectonic history that the rock underwent, so with the characterization of textures, type of metamorphism and partial melting, determination and calculation intensive variables you can access and infer part of tectonic history of the orogen. Four model regions are chosen for this research, Southern Brasilia Orogen, the Itatins Complex, the Petunia Complex, and part of Araçuaí Origen and its infrastructure. In all units metamorphic rocks will be investigated, which conditions may vary between the green schist and granulite facies. They will be investigated to the determination of the P-T conditions of metamorphic peak, metamorphic paths, partial melting process, textures of mineral growth, behavior of trace elements in minerals in various textural contexts with dating methods using in situ and thermodynamic modeling. With the evolution of the project, it is intended to contribute to the knowledge of the tectonic evolution using for it, knowledge raised with understanding of how occurred the metamorphism and partial melting.
