Analysis of teamwork and its relationship with satisfaction of practitioners and users' satisfaction with the quality of care in primary care services in São Paulo

Abstract

Teamwork and collaborative interprofessional practice are recognized as relevant components of the organization of services and health systems to ensure universal access and quality of health care. In Brazil, they are guidelines in the primary care of the Unified Health System (SUS), organized within the Family Health Strategy (FHS). The literature furnishes evidence of the effects of teamwork for the quality of care, job satisfaction and user satisfaction. This study aims to identify the association between team climate, job satisfaction and users' satisfaction related to the quality of care in primary care services in the city of São Paulo.Mixed-method sequential explanatory research in two different phases, quantitative and qualitative. The first phase is a cross-sectional study with quantitative approach, carried out in primary care services in São Paulo with a sample of workers distributed by conglomerates (teams of the Family Health Strategy) by health region, and random sample of users (adults and children). A questionnaire will be used for data collection, bringing together two validated scales in Brazil: Team Climate Inventory and Job Satisfaction (S20 / 23). The study of the satisfaction of users with the quality of care will be done using the Primary Care Assessment Tool (PCATool) that was also validated in the country. The analysis will be done using descriptive and analytical statistics, identifying homogeneous team clusters and variable associations, applying multi-level models. In the second phase the research will draw on qualitative approaches, performing semi-structured interviews with FHS practitioners and adult users served by the same PHC units, with content analysis followed by triangulation and convergence of results both from the quantitative and qualitative phases. The research is justified by the need to strengthen and consolidate teamwork in order to increase access and quality of SUS primary care. Its outcomes will contribute to educational and management interventions and develop practices in effective, integrated and collaborative teams. (AU)
