Abstract

The Teaching and Research Institute from Sírio-Libanês Hospital (IEP-HSL) is a center of excellence and knowledge with emphasis on research and technological innovations. The IEP-HSL enables the development of studies in different fields of knowledge especially cancer research after the foundation of Molecular Oncology Center in 2012, dedicated to translational research in oncology.A better understanding of tumor biology combined with technological advances in the last years has allowed significant progress in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer. In vitro approaches to cancer cell studies are considered a useful tool for the understanding of biological processes. Cell cultures require careful attention in order to avoid or reduce microbial contamination with bacteria and fungus. Thus cell culture procedures are performed at a sterile work area designated for this purpose. The Cell Biology Laboratory maintains a completely equipped biological containment facility for work with cell culture with no need to use equipments located in other IEP-HSL laboratories. It is noteworthy that the Cell Biology Laboratory is considered a multi user laboratory as it can be used by all research groups from our institute. Thereby the availability of Institutional Technical Reserve will help to improve the laboratory's operational framework enabling the maintenance of a sterile and clean work area to meet all research projects that are underway.
