Abstract

The proposed exchange aims at building structural capacity in the study of European Union (EU) - Brazil Science diplomacy. Science Diplomacy has recently become a very important research topic partly due to the growing interest of learned societies such as the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and the Royal Society. This is especially in the recognition that exchanges in science and technology can help in building relations between nation states. Yet, against the backdrop of this growing interest there is little research being done, at historical and policy levels, on science diplomacy, especially in the relationship between EU and Brazil. This agenda is embedded in the field of foreign policy analysis, a topic that has been the focus of various surveys University of São Paulo has conducted in the last few years. We thus propose collaborative activities aiming to understand how Science and technology, and related instruments have served to increase the international insertion of countries, especially within the framework of regional integration that guides the relations of both the United Kingdom (UK) within the framework of the EU, as in Brazil, in the Mercosur context.
