Air quality and water to VOC in the area of influence of the Capuava petrochemical complex , the greater ABC region

Abstract

The Greater ABC region is located in a strategic area for the development of pollution and climate studies due to several aspects, for example, its high degree of industrialization and urbanization, with the presence of Petrochemical Capuava. In this context, this project has the overall objective to characterize qualitatively and quantitatively VOC in the air and surface and groundwater in the area of influence of the Petrochemical Capuava . For this study will be made: (i) VOC measurements are taken at different times of year; (ii) simulations with models Gaussian AERMOD View and photochemical air quality CIT - Caltech Institute Technology; (iii) Evaluations for climatological study the interrelationships climate and air pollution and vice versa; (iv) a database on contaminated areas and relate them to the incidence of chronic autoimmune hypothyroidism region. We expect this work: (i) providing a characterization of the impact of the petrochemical in adjacent urban areas and the local weather movement peculiarities that contribute to the dispersion or accumulation of pollutants in the region; (ii) data for further studies of air quality and water correlation with health; (iii) to correlate the changes in urban climate with the accumulation of pollutants in the Greater ABC region; (iv) encourage the participation of undergraduates and graduate students in research projects in that area; (v) provide an assessment of the water quality in the area of influence of the Polo.
