Chemical and physical properties of bamabusurils, semi-cucurbiturils and calix4azulenes: three neglected cavitands

Abstract

We suggest a comprehensive study on three families of cavitands: bambusurils, hemi-cucurbiturils, and calixazulenes, in order to unveil their fundamental chemical and physical characteristics, aiming practical applications. Among them, their chemical and thermal stabilities, solubilities, spectroscopic properties, metal coordination capacity, characteristics as inclusion matrices, and others. These three families of macrocycles have been systematically neglected by the scientific community, and there is practically nothing about them in the literature. We believe it is possibleto find practical applications for such compounds as ionophoroes for nanofiltration membranes, optical sensors and chemoresponsive gels, and the first step to reach this goal is to know their characteristics.
