Abstract

As described in the Annual Plan for Technical Reserve Application for Institutional Research Support 2015, CENA´s research development is remarkable in several aspect (publications, capacity on attracting funding agencies resources, projects involving post doc, etc.) and so we can expand these actions and always seeking for innovation and pioneering spirit. Therefore, we consider highly important to meet the research demand of the team working on NAPTISA and also in collaboration with researchers from other national and international research institutions. In this sense, the Advisory Board of CENA decided at its 4th regular meeting of 2015 held on 04/August/2015, to support this initiative, and thus the resource application from the FAPESP Technical Reserve for Institutional Support (2015). This amount corresponds to projects approved by FAPESP at CENA/USP in 2013 and 2014 and should primarily support actions aimed at the acquisition of advanced equipment, preferably on multi-user basis, in support of US-NSF-FAPESP Biota (Dimensions of Biodiversity). The Advisory Board of CENA understood the importance of this issue, to acquire instrument specially built for CH4 detection released by the soil active microbiota, with the possibility of discriminating against microbial groups that metabolize those that produce methane from those emitting methane into the environment. This equipment has been proposed to the US NSF project BIOTA-FAPESP, however, was not granted because of its high cost ($ 200,000.00). Thus, the instrument may be used by the NAPTISA and collaborators from other educational or research units. This EMU will support the project Dimensions US-BIOTA-Sao Paulo: Collaborative Research: Integrating Dimensions of Microbial Biodiversity across Land Use Change inTropical Forests (Proc. FAPESP 2014/50320-4), NSF/FAPESP-Biota Program. (AU)
