The pisciculture can be a lever for social and economic development, considering the potential of natural resources in Brazil. The main contribution of this proposal is related to the management process in the main producing regions of the country, which is not just generate economic feasibility indicators. Within this theme, a proposal to measure an assessment of efficiency through data envelopment analysis (DEA), this project aims to evaluate the performance of the main producing centers of tilapia in Brazil, in order to verify the degree of productive efficiency, in order to generate information that effectively contribute to actions aimed at efficiency and competitiveness gains in the productive sector as well as finding the determinants of inefficiency, through an econometric model. The DEA analysis can potentially provide better conditions of competitiveness to fish farmers, especially when interpreted and used with the knowledge and own judgments about these operations. Thus, by knowing the performance indicators of the main poles, you can identify the main obstacles of the least efficient and optimize their processes to make them more efficient, ensuring thus its sustainability in production environments for both products intended for domestic market and export.
