Abstract

The study of headache, particularly migraine in the field of physiotherapy, is an innovative theme, even more when associating clinical data typical from neurology and otoneurology clinical settings. Our group has studied musculoskeletal and functional consequences in these patients. There is, however, motor control adaptations and their relationship with clinical and structural aspects still unclear. The main objective of this project is to identify permanent adaptations in motor control of migraine patients and if theses adaptations distinct promotes functional impact. It will be assessed: 1) cervical motor control under maximal and submaximal conditions; 2) postural control and the contribution of vestibular, visual or proprioceptive systems to maintain it and, also the repercussion of external disturbance in the static and dynamic balance 3) to evaluate if there is a correlation of these functional and structural changes in the central nervous system or oculomotor and vestibular systems. Moreover, we intend to elucidate the the magnitude of the association among musculoskeletal variables or functional effects with the chronicity of migraine frequency. Therefore, it is being proposed three studies where women with migraine, will be divided according to the migraine subtype: migraine with aura, migraine without aura, chronic migraine and control subjects. The volunteers will undergo MRI examination and otoneurological exams. They will have their cervical spine motion, body posture, balance and adaptive locomotion assessed according to each study. Data from these studies will contribute to the knowledge of a proper multidisciplinary approach of the individual with migraine and their relationships with musculoskeletal and functional variables. They will also provide subsidies for the best clinical and functional kinetic of this condition also considering neurological and neurootological aspects. (AU)
