Abstract
In this project, the theory of self-adjoint extensions of symmetric operators will be applied to semiclassical gravity and quantum cosmology. My main interests are in the resolution, via quantum gravity, of the classical singularities in General Relativity, both in static spacetimes and in cosmological models. I am also interested in the stability/instability of spacetimes according to the boundary conditions at the classical singularities. The effect of the vacuum fluctuations on the light cone will also be considered. The consequences of this effect on the dimensional reduction at Planck scales will be analyzed. (AU)
