Management Program of FAMERP's Multiuser Laboratory

Abstract

At the Faculdade de Medicina de São José do Rio Preto (FAMERP) several projects related to the research lines are developed. These are parts of the institution's Graduate Program and integrate various areas in the Departments of FAMERP. Our research infrastructure is based in the U-6 Block. It was built with financial assistance obtained from the FINEP (Funding Authority for Studies and Projects). The research laboratories are installed on the first floor in an area of 2,310 m2, which includes the Multiuser Laboratory (LMU). The LMU comprises infrastructure and equipment for research activities and the production of knowledge and technology to meet the scientific community needs of the institution. This Research Center is called Multi-User Laboratory. It is open to the community of researchers who undertake research in different areas of knowledge, such as Cellular and Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, Virology, Microbiology, Pathology, Clinical Area, among others. The multi-user laboratory equipment has been granted by research funding agencies to FAMERP's faculty members attached to the Associate Directorate of Research. The researchers have held the office of the Multiuser's Project Coordinators. Currently, FAMERP's Multiuser Lab gathers equipment of important scientific relevance for the development of quality research in the country, such as HPLC, Flow Cytometry, RT-PCR, Fluorescence Microscope, Purification Water System, Ultra-low temperature Freezer (-80°C), among other devices. Thus, there is a need to invest in groundbreaking methodologies in the Multiuser Lab. It is also necessary to establish approaches, which improve the practice of research, teaching, and extended education of the institution. This way, FAMERP can reach a most prominent place on search in the country. It is appropriate to emphasize that FAMERP's expansion in teaching, research, and extended education activities are possible only with obtaining financing to purchase of laboratory and adequacy of their infrastructure equipment. It is appropriate to emphasize that the FAMERP's activity expansions in teaching, research, and extended education are possible only with the support of funding agencies in order to purchase laboratory equipment and adequacy of infrastructure. This way, we identified the need to acquire some small-sized equipment, consumption materials, and third party service providers in further funding research supports. Thus, FAMERP chose to use the funds relating to FAPESP's Institutional Technical Reserve (reference year 2015-2016) for the acquisition of a Magnetic Stirrer and a Vortex mixer, besides third party service providers (for those equipment/devices, which need yearly or half-yearly maintenance, and training programs for employees as well. The technical reserve will also be used to purchase consumption materials to keep the equipment working for a period of one year. Thus, the aim of the proposal entitled "Management Program of FAMERP's Multiuser Laboratory" is to make it more accessible to the entire scientific community of the institution, as well as to the Hospital de Base and other research centers. By doing so, our purpose is that FAMERP becomes a reference in research with combining strategies in Research and Graduate Studies, resulting in greater academic interaction and extension services to the community.
