RTI 2015: Annual Application Plan of technical reserve for institutional infrastructure for research

Abstract

The institutional plan of research activites at UNIFESP prioritize the development of interdisciplinary, innovative and with high level of intelectual, social and economic impact. The plan was developed in partnership with the Post Graduation and Research Chamber of each University Unit, proportionally to the amount of contribution of the researchers from that unit to the calculation of the Institutional Technical Reserve. In each Chamber they decided on the main needs of the specific Unit considering the multiuser characteristic of the equipment, services or supplies requested. One criterion of eligibility, in the case of adaptations of the labs, was the presentation of a certificate from the Engineering Department stating that it was feasible. Another criterion, in the case of acquisition of equipment, was the absence of equivalent equipment in the University. The proposals presented by each Chamber were discussed in the Post Graduate and Research Council after checking if there was no item not allowed according to FAPESP specific policy. The distribution of resources was: a) 30% to be allocated by the team of the prorectory in order to deal with emergencies and common costs to different campuses such as libraries; b) 70% were decided by the council of the University Units Chambers, considering all the proposals sent by the researchers asking for equipment or services to multiuser labs. The decision on priority was based on the following criteria: shared facilities, impossibility of obtaining funds from other sources and relevance to high level and impacting research projects. The items requested were considered the most relevant to the maintenance of common use labs. The Pro-rectory has prioritized innovative approaches and high-level projects in the diverse areas of research. In some areas we already have a strong tradition, such as in Health Sciences and in others we are expanding as in Humanities, Exact, Biological and Environmental Sciences. Therefore, the allocation of resources was based on the main needs of the University regarding Research infrastructure, following a short, medium and long-term planning. These funds will also be used for developing services of an office of Innovation to foster partnerships with business area. Some consumables, essential to the completion of the maintenance and modernization services will also be acquired to support several research groups. With regard to 30 % under the responsibility of direct decision of the Dean of Graduate Studies and Research priority has been given to corrective maintenance of equipment or laboratories; support to the Office of Support for Researchers and supporting scientific dissemination, among which Integrator Researchers Forum, which creates spaces for discussion, planning the use of funds and partnerships in research. The funds will also be used to support the publishing of journals (including services for typesetting, editing, printing and publishing in an electronic version) aiming at expanding the dissemination of research, among which ENTRETESES a magazine designed to promote the research developed at UNIFESP, national and internationally.
