Abstract

Currently, the search for new production methods is becoming a concern for industries, either for economic or environmental reasons. For the synthesis of long chain di-alcohols and tri-alcohols, new production methods can convert low value-added products and byproducts from industrial processes to high-value products or even strategic intermediary for the manufacture of other products. Metal nanoparticles offers unique opportunities in catalysis, and excellent chance to the development of viable industrial processes. Nanocatalysts have been studied and exhibit excellent catalytic properties and high selectivity in various reactions, however they have limited impact on industrial catalysis. In this proposal, we intend to study the use of carbon nanoparticles filled with magnetic oxide nanoparticles. The synthesis Fischer Tropsch has been highlighted as an alternative to hydrocarbon synthesis using CO, which is product from the fossil fuel combustion, such as reagents. Carbon nanotubes are a new kind of porous materials composed by almost one-dimensional nanocavities of curved graphene walls. Due to the fact that carbon nanotubes are cylindrical with internal cavity, they behave as efficient vessels for performing gas storage processes and promote unforeseen interactions when combined with catalysts nanometric because its confinement effects. In this project, we will focus on the use of the Fischer Tropsch reaction for the synthesis of long chain di- and tri-alcohols using carbon nanotubes filled with magnetic oxides as catalysts. (AU)
