Surface modification of graphene oxide with a dendrimer: A study of hybrid nanostructured materials for chemical and biological applications

Abstract

In this project, we intend to modifying graphene oxide with a Polypropyleniimine tetraamine dendrimer (DAB-AM-4) by a chemical process, and explore its chemical and biological properties. The specific objectives of this project can be summarized in three steps. In a first step, it is desired to prepare and characterize by different techniques such as Ramam spectroscopy, Infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), UV-Visible (UV-Vis), X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), the product obtained of by reaction of graphene oxide with the dendrimer. In a second step, we intend to make a systematic study on the electrochemical properties of these materials, after the formation of a metal complex with potassium hexacianoferrate(III) (OGDH), employing cyclic voltammetry using solid electrode or graphite paste electrode containg OGDH as working electrode. After optimization of the electroanalytical system is intended to test these composites as sensors for the determination of species of the biological and environmental interest, mainly employing different electrochemical techniques such as square wave voltammetry, differential pulse voltammetry and chronoamperometry.The third step is to investigate the effect of association of cannabidiol and the graphene oxide modified with the dendrimer (OGD) in recovering the facilitatory effects of damage to the substantia nigra pars reticulata (SNpr) on epiletic seizures as well as define the pharmacological mechanisms of a possible antiepileptic effect of cannabidiol microinjected into the substantia nigra not only determining its course of action, but also an important place of therapeutic effect (AU)
