Abstract

Functional illiteracy is the lack of capacity to deal with written information that is essential to live in a society. Functional illiteracy prevalence might be present in healthcare settings which impairs the good functioning of these systems, especially when following healthcare staff orders. In the elderly, functional litteracy is often related to cognitive functioning. Elders cognitive functioning can be impaired what leads these individuals to demand help in daily living activities from others. It seems important to recognize healthcare systems users functional illiteracy so that better options of care can be discussed. This present study aims to identity functional illiteracy in the caregivers of elders in two different public healthcare settings. (AU)
