Development of new well-defined multifunctional dendrimers for applications in nanomedicine

Dendrimers are well-defined branched macromolecules that are built in a stepwise manner, which are accepted as being a special class of polymers with a monodisperse architecture. The goal of the current project is the development of new biocompatible multifunctional nanomaterials based on well-defined multifunctional dendrimers, for application in nanomedicine. The project will focus on the synthesis of the new materials using innovative synthetic strategies based on orthogonality and click chemistry. The new dendrimers will be functionalized at specific locations with drugs, imaging agents, and/or targeting groups. The cytotoxicity of the new nanomaterials will be tested against several cell lines in order to define if these materials are valid candidates for drug delivery platforms. These materials will also be explored as multivalent platforms for SPR and electrochemical biosensors. (AU)
