Abstract

Edentulism in Brazil still affects much of the population, especially the elderly, generating numerous problems like loss of function and aesthetics decreasing the quality of life and social life. Often, the rehabilitation of the edentulous jaw with conventional prosthesis does not bring the masticatory efficiency and stability provided by the implant. Thus, to facilitate technical, reduce costs and to open ways for implementation of this treatment modality in the public health system, this study aims to develop two new models of mini-implants, a capsule o-ring for overdentures prostheses and a surgical kit with few devices, compared to similar commercially available. A total of 40 mini-implants (n=20) is made of Titanium Grade IV, dimensions Ø 2.0 mm x 10 mm in length and subjected to a surface treatment; they are compared to 20 Intra-Lock System brand mini-implants, with a Ø 2.0 mm x 10 mm in length. Will be evaluated in comparison, the performance of new models with the conventional model selected by the following methods: 1. Digital Image Correlation (DIC), to analyze the generated tensions; 2. Insertion torque and pullout test for evaluating the primary stability; 3. Mechanical resistance to twisting. The capsules of o-rings, made from two different materials, will be evaluated and compared to a commercially available model through fatigue resistance test. Finalized the methods, the obtained data will be submitted to appropriate statistical analysis to obtain the results. (AU)
