Implementation of an environment for the management of IPEN network

Abstract

The computer network of the Institute of Energy and Nuclear Research - IPEN has approximately 1650 workstations, distributed in 43 buildings on 500,000 square meters of its campus. This network is constantly expanding. The Network Management and Support is responsible for providing an integrated and secure environment for communication and processing of information and institutional data, which includes the management and maintenance of fiber optic mesh of 5 kilometers. With the continuous increase in the number of connections and workstations networked, the adoption of an automated tool to manage the operation, and diagnose potential failures quickly became indispensable. The implementation of the IPEN network management will bring significant gains in the diagnosis and fault correction also providing proactive actions through real-time monitoring of physical and logical connections to the network backbone. Thus, failures in service or hardware (switches, adapters, optical fiber) can be corrected more quickly. The proposed system will bring many benefits to the management and administration of IPEN's computer network, which will be reflected in increased availability of the network infrastructure for the research activities of the institution. With the implementation of the monitoring service can detect network failures and notify the administrator to take the necessary steps (AU)
