Abstract

This research will examine to what extent urban parks and their edges may become factors of resilience and adaptation of the City of São Paulo, as an urban ecosystem, to the climate change. For this purpose, it will be analyzed several factors that make the parks the focal point of the research, which are: size, shape, biodiversity, topographical situation, characteristics of edge (adjacent urban fabric and existing urban pressures), the distance of these to the other surrounding green areas, the relationship to water bodies (its existence or nearness to springs, rivers, canals, lakes and dams) and the types of use, these latter understood as "service to the city." As reference areas of green infrastructure, four parks were selected to serve as study areas and focal points of the research. These, together with their border situations and relationships with other significant green areas, will be analyzed through a series of tests and measurements of quantitative character, complemented by qualitative assessments. It is expected that these parks may be considered as strategic areas of "anchoring" of environmental planning, through the creation of a green infrastructure for urban resilience to climate changes in the City of São Paulo.
