Development Poles and Innovation Habitats of São Paulo State: a study of the regions of Piracicaba and São Carlos / SP.

Abstract

This project aims to analyze what territorial competencies are necessary to foment and to establish the development poles and innovation habitat of Piracicaba and São Carlos regions, within SP State. To do so, it will be required to investigate the joint actions taken by main stakeholders: public and private organizations, universities, research centers, and other relevant partners, essential to promoting an innovation center, developed and orchestrated in order to improve local social capital, and the cooperation and learning relations inside the region. The research methodological approach is based on the interpretive vision. In spite, will be used descriptive tools from variables and indicators that point out the process of transformation experienced in these target cities, subject of this survey. The investigation intends to identify and analyze the organizations characteristics and specificities, and the linkages between these actors that contribute to these locations development. The expected outcomes focus on theoretical and empirical reflection to identify territorial required competencies for the development center formation, and the creation of innovation habitats (clusters), as well as in proposing methodological instrument for territorial innovation analyzes. With the understanding of these local characteristics and specificities, will be possible to formulate public policies that ensure the development of these innovation clusters, in the long term. (AU)
