Synchronization in networks of chaotic oscillators

Prof. Istvan Kiss, is internationally well known by his research involving spontaneous structure formation (collective phenomena) in populations of oscillators. His work includes the development of mathematical methods for data analysis and the performance of controlled experiments, notably with chemical oscillators. Regarding methods for data analysis, he has designed efficient methods for the determination of the interrelation network (interdependence) among the oscillators, even in a context where the coupling is not linear and the network of interactions changes over of time. On the other hand, his experiments involving large populations of chemical oscillators have allowed understanding many nonlinear phenomena that rule the dynamics of these systems, leading them to develop spatiotemporal patterns and organized structures. In his visit to Brazil he will conduct the following activities: 1) Use of his approaches for the determination of interdependence from time series to unveil interdependences in climate series; 2) The enhancements of his method to deal with short time series related to time-variant systems; 3) To finish an article that we are written related to the application of our method for detection of phase synchronization in experimental data generated in the laboratory of Dr. Kiss; 4) Give a plenary lecture at DINCON.
