Patterns in images generated using ultrasound


The requirement of technological tools to inspect trees and timber on an objective way encouraged that results in this area, obtained in researches, were transfer quickly to the industry. Because of this, although the industrial homographs are already in use, there are many researches in the area, showing that there are space to the scientific and technological development. The difficult to recognize and describe patterns on the images and to associate this images with fall risk or final diagnoses of timber condition, remains as challenges to the scientists. In this project in particular, the differential challenges are related with tomography using ultrasound and not stress wave and the utilization of conventional equipment and software developed in Brazil. In these themes, we obtained great advances during researches supported by FAPESP, but there are challenges to be overcome to conclude the knowledge cycle. Therefore, the objectives of this research are the recognizing and the description of the image pattern, the study of the viability of differentiate the types of anomaly or deterioration and the improvement of the software used to generate the tomography image. To reach the objectives, tomographic images will be generated using data already obtained in previous projects and new data obtained during this Project. The tree and timber testing will be done using methodology developed and consolidated during the previous projects of the research group. We hope, with the description of the image patterns and the improving on the software, generate the images, propose methodology to use conventional ultrasound equipment and software developed in Brazil to inspect trees and timber (AU)
