Quantitative analysis of behavioral relations: visit of Dr. Armando Domingos Batista Machado to UFSCar

Abstract

The goal of this proposal is to support a 10-month visit of Dr. Armando Machado (Universidade do Minho, Portugal), to some of the laboratories of the National Institute of Science and Technology on Behavior, Cognition, and Teaching (ECCE-INCT), funded by FAPESP (Grant #2008/57705-8) and CNPq (# 573972/2008-7). The main location of the visit will be UFSCar, the INCT headquarters, but the visitor will also interact with researchers at USP (São Paulo) and will travel for short visits to three federal universities: UFMG, UNB and UFPA (these institutions will be responsible for travelling and maintenance expenses during the visit to their sites). The main purpose of the visit will be Dr. Machado's participation in research projects (one in progress and one to be implemented at the beginning of his visit) and in research seminars for discussing ongoing projects at the different laboratories to be visited. Other objectives include teaching graduate courses (at UFSCar and USP), delivering lectures, writing a scientific article derived from research conducted in collaboration with a researcher from UFSCar, and attending the Annual Meeting of the Brazilian Society of Psychology, in which he will deliver an invited conference and a workshop. Dr. Armando has visited UFSCar and USP on previous occasions and has made a relevant contribution. His thought-provoking questions and suggestions have impacted the students (both in classes and in the laboratory) and challenged the researchers. He has also received post-doctoral and doctoral students in his laboratory. The results of the collaborative work have been published in co-authorship with him in important international journals.
