Use of biotechnological macrophytes in aquaculture

Abstract

A major problem is the formation of aquaculture wastewater arising from this activity the production of aquatic organisms, mainly because of aquaculture ponds and tanks running at maximum carrying capacity, with the emergence of common aquatic plants. In this approach the project about the biotechnological use of these aquatic plants as an important tool for use in feed for fish, culture medium for algae and effluent treatment in aquaculture. The levels of nutrients contained in aquatic plants can be a way of enhancing the performance of ornamental fish, microalgae and also the retention of particles in wastewater. The use of the extract of E. crassipes as a culture medium for microalgae is widely used in our laboratory results with high biomass and high nutritional value of microalgae. Thus, the use of the extract from several plants can be beneficial to the development of ornamental fish and microalgae become a new tool for studying nutrition, considering the nutritional potential of aquatic plant and the low cost of this product. Aquatic plants are the main characteristics of assimilation and support for nutrient storage in biomass, tolerance to local climatic conditions, resistance to physical and chemical characteristics of water flow, easy harvesting and management, contributing to the sustainable development of aquaculture activity. The rational use and sustainability of macrophytes give continuity to studies performed in our laboratory (FAPESP processes numbers: 06/50315-4; 08/54954-7, 08/56621-5, 09/51852-1, 11/20910-6, 12/06382-0, 12/15334-9 and 12/09844-4).
