Functional analysis of the continuous magnetic field in healthy and ischemic rodent's post-injection of anxiolytic, anxiogenic, activator and depressor of motor behavior

For decades the magnetic fields (MFs) are subject to scientific investigation. Studies demonstrated its influence on various biological systems, in the modulation of cellular calcium influx and maintenance of behavioral homeostasis. However, the large body of evidence is related to electromagnetic fields and no continuous magnetic fields. Thus, it is necessary to continue the investigation of interference of continuous MFs. Interest is directed to the modulation of behavioral and motor responses, in the preservation of ischemic neurons after injury and the possibility of a functional interference with drugs that modify brain neurotransmission. For that purpose, perform two experiments. Experiment I: 144 gerbils divided into 12 groups. Three days before surgery for bilateral occlusion of the carotid artery and implantation of a magnetic helmet, the animals will be habituated in the Rotarod (RR), and 24 hours before surgery in the Activity Monitor (AM). On the fourth postoperative day, the animals will have their behavior evaluated in AM for 15 minutes and subsequently the RR. Individual groups receive saline or apomorphine (1mg/kg) or raclopride (0.9 mg / kg) 5 minutes before assessment in AM. After the experiment, the animals are sacrificed, the brains dissected and frozen were cut, mounted on slides and stained with Nissl and Golgi techniques. Still will be immunoblotted with anti-caspase 3 pAb for assessing apoptotic death. Experiment II: 120 male Wistar rats will divide into ten groups. On the fourth day after implantation of the magnetic helmet, the animals will have their behavior evaluated in the elevated plus maze test for five minutes. Specific groups receive saline, pentylenetetrazol (30mg/kg) or alprazolam (1ml/kg) 30 minutes before to this evaluation. Behavioral, morphological and immunohistochemical data will be submitted to an ANOVA and ANCOVA. The differences will highlight by the post hoc Holm-Sidak test. (AU)
