Effect of low intensity laser therapy and platelet-rich plasma in delayed reimplanted teeth:histologic, immunohistochemistry and micro-computed tomography

Abstract

The best tratment for avulsed permanet teeth is immediate reimplantation, however, when the tooth remains out of the socket for a long period, the prognosis may be impaired. Behaviors have been performed in an attempt to improve the problems arising from delayed reimplantation. Laser therapy, due to its anti-inflammatory property, and the platelet-rich plasma (PRP), due to the release of growth factors, have been used to improve tissue damage and assist the healing process. In view of this, the aim of this study will be to evaluate the effects of laser therapy, the application of PRP and the association of both in delayed reimplantation of rat upper incisors, according to different endodontic conditions. Sixty-five right central incisors of the animals will be divided into twelve experimental groups, where there will be avulsion and submission to one of the treatment protocols, and reimplanted after 40 minutes, there will be a control group where the tooth will not receive avulsion neither any other treatment (n = 5) . Each treatment protocol will be in accordance with the condition of the pulp cavity (pulp maintenance, filling with calcium hydroxide or filling with PRP) and alveolus/periodontal treatment (clot or PRP with or without laser therapy). Evaluations will be conducted by means of histologic, immunohistochemistry and micro-computerized tomographic (micro-CT) analyses. The histological and immunohistochemical evaluations will be conducted in the experimental period of 30 days and the micro-CT will be performed in the immediate period and 30 days after reimplantation. The data obtained for each evaluation will be submitted to appropriate statistical tests, with 5% significance level. (AU)
