Work in the manufacture of jewelry in Limeira, SP

Abstract

The sector of jewelry and veneers brings gains in economic terms and generates jobs for the city of Limeira-SP, Brazil. However, it encompasses a number of limitations such as the lack of sophistication in terms of technology in addition to environmental problems. This research project aims to describe, characterize and understand the systems of work, tasks and activities demanded in the manufacturing process of jewelry, costume jewelry and veneers. It will also identify the risks to which workers are exposed in this sector, as well as to assess the impacts that this production process brings to the work of the people, through a survey of possible difficulties and the strategies to overcome them. Finally, we intend to contribute to improve the knowledge of the major inherent issues in this type of production, in order to create elements that may favor the development of local policies and strategies for addressing the problems. To achieve the objectives proposed above, it will be selected three companies of jewelry and veneers Limeira manufacture sector, involved in key stages of the production chain, to conduct a detailed study of working conditions through the ergonomics activities model and the Ergonomic Work Analysis (EWA) methodology. The contribution of ergonomics is given precisely by its interdisciplinary, integrating concepts from the social sciences with technological advances, and as a result the increase in individual productivity, reducing accidents and improving the health of the working population.
