I am applying for FAPESP, to work, under Supervision of Professor Rubens Maciel Filho, at Laboratory of Optimization, Design and Advanced Process Control (LOPCA), Division of Bioenergy, School of Chemical Engineering, State University of Campinas (Unicamp), in order to evaluate the technical, economic and ecological feasibility of Botryococcus braunii algal biomass conversion to biofuel, such as biodiesel in a commercial scale using experimental and literature data. This research introduces a systematic approach for the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of new renewable technologies applied to the 3rd generation biofuels (from microalgae). The LCA method is based on the integrated use of process simulation software and it is directed towards making realistic simulation models. The purpose of this research is to provide information for decision making about the innovative technology development and research planning on industrial scale. (AU)
