Abstract

In Brazil, the point sources of water pollution are still not adequately controlled and the issue of diffuse pollution is not even mentioned in the National Environment Policy. Thus, identify the sources of diffuse pollution and quantify their pollutant loads is importance to subsidize policies for water resources management. To contribute to this area of knowledge, this project aims to analyze how nonpoint source pollution may affect the behavior of water resources in urban basin. The Mineirinho basin - located in São Carlos, State of São Paulo, Brazil; will be used as case study. That basin has about 6 km ² and the Master Plan of the city defines it as one of its urban sprawl vectors. To develop the present study, four stages will be performed: collection of hydrometeorological data, water sample collection and analysis, calculation of pollutant concentration and land use classification. With these results, it is expected to better understand the relationship between runoff, diffuse pollution and urban land use. (AU)
