Abstract

There is a wide variation in concentrations of the biomarkers of exposure, effect, and susceptibility associated with exposure to toxic metals despite similar levels of exposure and this is hypothetically related gene modulation in the process kinetics and dynamics of these metals. However, very little is known about the genome effects on the metabolism and toxicity induced by exposure to lead (Pb) and its various interfaces. Thus, this project aims to assess the genome-metal in individuals exposed to metal. Thus, metal concentrations will be determined in blood, urine and plasma by mass spectrometry (ICP- MS) and several determinations and biochemical parameters related to the toxicity of the metal will also be conducted. Evaluation of polymorphisms, gene expression and methylation patterns of promoter regions of genes associated with toxicokinetics and toxicodynamics of the metal will be conducted to evaluate the gene modulation on the concentrations and toxicity induced by metal, through studies of multivariate models. Thus, it is expected that the obtained results will assist for a better understanding of the interactions between the metal and these genetic variants, an incipient research in the country, but very promising named "genome-environment interactions."
