Quaternary carbonate deposits of the Serra Bodoquena and Pantanal of Miranda (MS): geochronology and paleoclimatic aspects

Abstract

The main purpose of this is to perform a complete study of the continental carbonate deposits from Serra da Bodoquena and Pantanal do Miranda (Miranda River's wetland). The main goal is to determine a chronology of the deposition and the paleoenvironmental factor that influenced during the Quaternary in the contexto of the south Pantanal wetland. Due the peculiar characteristics, the continental carbonate deposits are a challenge system to establish reliable chronologies, for this reason, evaluate the geochronological methodologies applied in this study especially the radiocarbon and optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) methods. Detailed geochronological studies are essential to correlate them with other sedimentary deposits and paleoclimatic studies. The results of this research will intent to establish a chronology for the development of the carbonates and also recover the main paleoenvirontmental and paleoclimatic proxies who affect their deposition.
