Evaluation of Mollicutes and other genital microorganisms participation in human endometriosis

Abstract

Endometriosis is defined as the presence of endometrial tissue located in a other location than the uterine cavity. Endometriosis affects approximately 10-15% of women of reproductive age and 30-50 % of infertile women. This is a multifactorial disease with multi-faceted. Therefore all theories about its pathogenesis should be complementary and are not mutually exclusive. The literature has been neglected or poorly studied etiological hypothesis for an infectious cause of endometriosis or what the possible involvement of different organisms in this complex subject. Based on these data, the aim of this study is to detect Mollicutes and other microorganisms of genital interest in intraperitoneal and lesion biopsy of the pelvic peritoneum of women with endometriosis to evaluate the possible role of these agents in the etiopathogenesis of endometriosis. For this, intraperitoneal fluid samples and lesion of pelvic peritoneum biopsy sampls of 124 women will be collected, being 74 women with endometriosis and 50 women without any symptoms. The samples will be submitted to qPCR for detection of M. genitalium, M. hominis, U. urealyticum, U. parvum, Chlamydia trachomatis, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, and human papillomavirus. Moreover, these samples will be performed dosed cytokine profile Th1/Th2/Th17/Th22 and gene expression analysis of inflammatory pathways and apoptosis by qPCR array. Thus, this proposed study will provide important data for understanding the etiopathogenesis of endometriosis. As a result of the project, is expected to bring together additional data allowing elucidate the possible role of infectious agents in disease development and thus contribute more widely to the development of preventive and treatment strategies.
