Assembly of the building infrastructure for doubling the capacity of the generating plant's electricity CNPEM

Abstract

The objective of this proposal is to mount the infrastructure of the building that will house the electricity generating plant of the National Center for Research in Energy and Materials - CNPEM. This plant operates in emergency mode when there is an interruption in the power supply from the dealership (CPFL) during peak hours where the amount billed by kWh is six times greater than the value outside these hours and in case where intemperes turn signals that can disrupt the supply of electric power briefly occur. The CNPEM is a multi-user research center which has an area of 380,000 m2, which houses the National Synchrotron Light Laboratory - LNLS National Laboratory Bioscience - LNBio, the National Nanotechnology Laboratory - LNNano and the National Laboratory of Science and Technology Bioethanol - CTBE. Its main purpose is to provide public or private, scientific community the necessary infrastructure for the development of science in Brazil. These laboratories operate 24 hours a day, providing all its infrastructure as more than 14 experimental stations distributed along the electron storage ring and other research units of the LNLS, magnetic resonance equipment and mass spectrometry on LNBio, reactors and fermenters in CTBE, optical microscopes and scanning tunneling high resolution and accuracy in LNNano all have besides these, other lines of research that are used by more than 3,000 researchers / year come from all over Brazil and other countries.Nowadays the CNPEM has a 250 kW generator to meet the pilot plant CTBE and 40 kW generator that meets some of the critical load of a central LNBio and 2000 kW generator, which supplies the limit, the entire infrastructure and LNBio part of the LNLS.With funds from FINEP, the CNPEM is acquiring a new machine with identical capacity to the existing central generator that will allow doubling the generating capacity of the current plant. Thus, the energy generated will supply the buildings development in electronics, magnets, mechanical workshop of the LNLS, beyond the buildings and CTBE and LNNano that are currently out of the emergency network and peak hours. The requested resource FAPESP, totaling R$ 721,000.00 (seven hundred and twenty-one thousand reais), primarily intended for assembly of electrical, hydraulic infrastructure and support the building of new generating facility that will house and operate the two generators of high power, expected to become operational in February 2015. Additional resources for construction of masonry must come from other sources such as Contrato de Gestão of the CNPEM.With the doubling of the power plant, the CNPEM will have capacity to generate electricity power enough to a city of approximately 40,000 inhabitants, enabling users CNPEM, security so that their research activities are developed.
