Abstract

Screening is an action direct to the asymptomatic population in the subclinical phase of the problem in question. The purpose of screening is to reduce the incidence of cancer in the population, detecting the disease in its early stages dormant. Usually, the screening test is less invasive, so the operating characteristics of the test, coupled with the prevalence of the disease being screened, it is important to minimize the potential harm of screening in São Paulo, colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most common cancer in men and women and the fourth most frequent cause of cancer death (INCA). At the Instituto do Cancer do Est ado de São Paulo (ICESP - HCFMUSP) more than 50% of patients presented with advanced colorectal cancer at moment of the diagnosis, stage IV with distant metastases. Objective: To conduct a pilot project of an organized screening program through a pre-defined investigation protocol of colorectal cancer (CRC) enrolled in the target population of the western region of São Paulo. Method: Individuals coming from the USP program at the West Zone of São Paulo, aged 50 to 70 years asymptomatic, will be called to realize a immunochemical fecal test, those patients whose outcome is positive, will be forwarded to the Institute Central HC FMUSP for a colonoscopy with biopsy if necessary. The cases diagnosed with malignancy by pathology will be forwarded to the Instituto do Cancer do Estado de São Paulo for cancer treatment. Expected results: determine whether the Fecal Immunochemical Test is effective in an organized screening Colorectal Cancer progam. (AU)
