Representative politics in comparative perspective

The main aim of the visit of Dr. Flavia Freidenberg (Insituto de Iberamérica, Universidad de Salamanca) is to contribute, during four weeks, with the development of the project "Organization and functioning of representative politics in São Paulo", funded by Fapesp (2012/19330-8) and run by the Public Opinion Research Centre at Unicamp with researchers from four universities (Unicamp, USP, UFSCar and Unesp-Araraquara) . Dr. Freidenberg will work on the analysis of the data collected by two surveys conducted among party members and city councilors in the state of São Paulo. Her research experience and work on party systems, party organization and sub national politics will certainly be very important for the project development. During her stay, Dr. Freidenberg will take part in meetings and workshops with all the researchers involved in the project. She will discuss their findings and suggest new approaches to their researches. She will also have meetings with all the undergraduate and graduate students taking part in the project, providing feedback for their works, and teach the short course "Political Parties and Party Systems in Latin America" at the Graduate Program in Political Science at Unicamp.
