Abstract

The phenomena related to oxide nanoparticles are entirely related to their surfaces . Taking into account that an oxide particles with average size of 5 nm is about 60 % of the atoms on the surface, the general properties could be associated with its surfaces. Colloidal properties are directly related to the chemical composition of the surface and its reaction to the solvent . The study nanomaterial properties by understanding the physical and chemical behavior of surfaces is one of the most promising path to establish the relationship between surface composition and its relation to the stability of particles and colloidal stability of dispersions . This proposal focuses on the study of the phenomena of segregation of additives (cations and anions) at the interfaces of nanomaterials associating the electrokinetic behavior of nanoparticles by measuring the zeta potential and selective solubility of additives in a matrix of an insoluble oxide . The selective solubility is determined by the technique of ion chromatography in colloidal dispersions of oxide nanoparticles prepared by the polymeric precursor technique. The subject has been studied in recent decades by the LPC group and its main intention quantify segregation for understanding the growth of nanoparticles and the stability of crystalline phases as well as their relation to the surface energy .
