Health project of Pindamonhangaba: PROSAPIN-II

Abstract

The climacteric period, from 35 to 65 years of age, is characterized by hormonal changes that cause health problems. In 2008, we carried out the project "PROSAPIN-I" with climacteric women in Pindamonhangaba-SP, which showed high prevalence of: metabolic syndrome (43%), hypertension (41%), overweight and obesity (32% and 37 %), anxiety (50%), depression (34%), sleep disturbance (45%), sexual dysfunction (60%), urinary incontinence -UI (17%), polycystic ovary syndrome (18%), smoking (36% ) and alcohol use (22%). We propose now to conduct the "PROSAPIN-II" with the objectives of: 1) To estimate the prevalence and incidence of clinical conditions and lifestyle of climacteric women; 2) To study the trend of these conditions in 2008-2013; 3) To validate the Berlin Questionnaire, which is used to raise the suspicion of Syndrome Obstructive Sleep Apnea for climacteric women; 4) To identify the associated factors and the risk factors for the clinical conditions in climacteric women; 5) To estimate the impact of Urofunctional Reeducation and Sleep Therapy in primary care. A cross sectional study will be conducted followed by an intervention. The first will include women aged 35-65 years enrolled in the Family Health Strategy of Pindamonhangaba-SP, selected probabilistically. This sample will comprise women studied in 2008 plus other selected in 2013, completing 1,200. Information on socio-demographic characteristics, gynecological morbidities, lifestyle, and medication use will be collected. Women presenting with sleep problems and UI will be invited to participate in the interventions for Urofunctional Reeducation and Sleep Therapy for 3 months with subsequent reassessment. Statistical analyzes will be descriptive, bivariate and multivariate. (AU)
