Soil micromorphology: basis and applications in tropical regions

Abstract

The experience accumulated by Prof. Selma Simões de Castro in teaching Pedology since the 1970's, initially at USP and afterwards at UFG, at graduate and undergraduate levels permitted to foresee the lack of books and bibliographic material in the area of Soil Micromorphology. This project pretends to fill in this lack of bibliography by writing and publishing a book titled "Soil Micromorphology: Basis and Applications in Tropical Regions, co-edited with Prof. Dr. Miguel Cooper of ESALQ/USP, with the duration of one year. The main public are professionals in soil science and similar areas, apart from graduate students in soil science (soil genesis, soil physics, soil geochemistry, soil morphology and classification, soil management and conservation, etc.), physical geography, landscape ecology, archeology, geotechnology and derivatives, that pretend to use this book as a tool for microscopic analysis of soils. In parallel to the elaboration of this book, other activities are programed as collaboration in the following graduate courses: Micropedology and Soil Genesis and Morphology courses. Collaboration activities in research projects coordinated by Profs Miguel Cooper and Selma Simões de Castro are also programed. (AU)
