Gene expression of Mayaro virus glycoproteins using baculovirus system

Abstract

210 different types of arbovirus circulate in Brazil, which have been transmitted by mosquitoes and other arthropods. Mayaro virus (MAYV) is the fourth in number of infected, standing after dengue, yellow fever and Oropouche, according to the Instituto Evandro Chagas, Pará. MAYV infection has been reported in Brazil, being included by the Ministry of Health on the list of notifiable diseases. Mayaro virus still has clinical importance because it causes symptoms that overlap with the clinical diagnosis of Dengue. The infection is characterized by clinical manifestations such as severe headache, epigastric and lombar pain; myalgia, arthralgia, chills, nausea, fever, photophobia, conjunctivitis, diarrhea and vomiting and although there is no record of deaths caused by MAYV, symptoms in some cases cause more suffering than those caused by dengue. Our goal in this project is to establish methodology and evaluate the expression of structural proteins via recombinant baculovirus MAYV. (AU)
