Physiological and chemical biodiversity of macroalgae ecologically and economically important

Abstract

Macroalgae are a group of more diversity among photosynthetic organisms. Represent a strategic natural resource for the development of biotechnology in the country. As essential components of the marine ecosystem, physiological interdisciplinary approaches on sensitivity are essential to understanding the effects of global climate changes and pollution allowance monitoring, preservation and environmental stewardship, stimulating biosynthesis of substances of interest, implementation of farming systems, aid in planning projects metabolic regulation and molecular approaches and sustainable species selection with potential for biotechnological applications. Thus, studies of the physiological processes underlying the damage caused by stress and the mechanisms of tolerance and acclimation of macroalgae are of great scientific and economic interest because they directly or indirectly affect photosynthesis and hence primary productivity and biomass production (quality and quantity). This proposal aims to characterize the biological responses of some species of seaweeds from the perspective integrative physiological and chemical approaches in order to relate them to some aspects of global climate changes and identifying potential biomolecules of biotechnological interest. With this in mind, the overall goals are: (a) study the physiological sensitivity of macroalgae species ecologically and economically important subjected to stress conditions in the laboratory, (b) to characterize the chemical profile of some species and assess their potential bioactive c) produce educational materials on physiological and chemical biodiversity of macroalgae.
