Abstract

This proposal aims to improve the exchange of information among scientists from CEBIMar/USP São Paulo and Dalhousie University (Canada). The 4 missions planed are linked to the on-going SiMCosta Project, which resulted from funding of Brazilian Agencies such as MMA, INCT and CNPq. The SiMCosta, seeks to detect long-term trends, improve the capability of predicting the effects of climatic variability and climatechanges and contribute with other national efforts of early warning systems for extreme events, using costal observatories equipped with oceanographic and meteorological sensor that will provide real-time an free data. The two Pls have a number of well cited published works in collaboration. The activities foreseen in the exchange are to expose teams from both countries to the work being carried out in the other, to inform and to be informed by best practices in the development of both ocean observation and modeling, and to build a cornrnon approach to the prediction of the coastal ocean over arange.of time scales. Particularly in this proposal, the activities will be focused at the São Paulo site, located at CEBimar, where the BIOTA-Araça FAPESP funded project is being executed. (AU)
