Management program FAMERP multiuser laboratory

Abstract

Several research projects are developed at the Faculdade de Medicina de São José do Rio Preto (FAMERP). These projects are related to the existing lines of research, which composed the Post-graduation Program's concentration areas. These projects are related to various areas within the Departments of FAMERP. At FAMERP there is a building that houses the Research Laboratories. It was built with financial support obtained from the FINEP (Financiadora de Estudos e Projetos), including the Multiuser Laboratory (LMU). FAMERP Multiuser's Lab comprises infrastructure and equipment for research activities and the production of knowledge and technologies that meet the needs of its scientific community. This Research Center is called Multiuser Laboratory, because it is open to the community of researchers who undertake research in various areas of knowledge, such as cellular and molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, virology, pathology, and clinical area among others. It crosses the barriers of Department. The multiuser laboratory equipment has been granted by research funding agencies to FAMERP's faculty attached to the Associate Directorate of Research. The researchers have held the office of the Multi-user's Project Coordinators. Currently, FAMERP's Multiuser Lab gathers equipment of important scientific relevance for the development of quality research in the country, such as HPLC, flow cytometry, RT-PCR, fluorescence microscope, Purification Water System, ultrafreezer (-80°C), among other devices. Thus, there is a need to invest in groundbreaking methodologies in the Multi-user Lab. It is also necessary to establish approaches, which improve the practice of research, teaching, and extended education of the institution. This way, FAMERP can reach a most prominent place on search in the country. It is appropriate to emphasize that FAMERP's expansion in teaching, research, and extended education activities are possible only with obtaining financing to purchase of laboratory and adequacy of their infrastructure equipment. It is appropriate to emphasize that the FAMERP's activities expansion in teaching, research, and extended education are possible only with the support of financing agencies in order to purchase laboratory equipment and adequacy of substructure. Currently, we identified the need to acquire some equipment, which can increase the value and quality of ongoing projects by several research groups within the institution. As it was verified the need to obtain some equipment and consumption materials, FAMERP chose to use the funds relating to FAPESP's Institutional Technical Reserve 2013 for the acquisition of Speedvac for HPLC (MSQ Plus - Thermo Scientific). So, by doing this, we guaranteed a continuous process of adequacy of the Multiuser laboratory for a widespread use of users. Thus, the aim of the proposal entitled "Management Program of FAMERP's Multiuser Laboratory" is to make it more accessible to the entire scientific community of the institution, as well as to the Hospital de Base and other research centers. Therefore, FAMERP becomes a reference in research with combining strategies in Research and Post-Graduate Studies, resulting in greater academic interaction and extension services to the community.
